![]() I can light the wick, close my eyes, and pretend like I’m outdoors without having to actually, you know, go outside. Other fir and forest-themed candles I’ve tried have the same artificial aroma as those little dangling pine tree things you can buy at a gas station, but this one actually has a scent that resembles a real live tree. Remember in the Twin Peaks pilot, when a bushy-tailed Agent Cooper excitedly asks Sheriff Truman, “What kind of fantastic trees have you got growing around here?” This candle smells like the answer to that question. It is strong, woodsy, and lingering, like the smell of the flannel you fell asleep in while camping but haven’t washed yet. That’s why Thymes’ “Frasier Fir” is one of the only candles I’ve ever loved. (It also doesn't hurt to know that 20% of all proceeds will go towards supporting Black trans people through For The Gworls.)Ĭandles and chewing gum both have the same problems: They’re usually not strong enough and they don’t last long enough. While working from home, I’ve developed an affinity for burning candles right next to me at the table, and nothing makes me feel more invigorated for the work day than lighting up something with an inspirational message. The label of We Are Fluide’s first signature candle is marked by an empowering mantra: “You are a child of the universe.” Released as part of the queer beauty brand’s new “Radical Rest” collection, which is dedicated to the self-care of Black trans women and femmes, “ Child of the Universe” is an understated burn, offering gentle notes of cedar, teakwood, and black pepper that never feel overwhelming.
